Welcome to the official website of the Korean Physicians in NJ/NY of International Medical Alumni (KNI). I am Dr. Andrew Nam, a specialist in pain management and anesthesiology based in New Jersey, and I have the honor of serving as the President of KNI.

My journey with KNI began during my third year of residency in anesthesiology at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. Initially, I was apprehensive about joining a group of Korean doctors due to my discomfort with hierarchical relationships. However, my first KNI meeting dispelled these concerns. I found a community of doctors who were respectful, friendly, and open to exchanging ideas in our native language. This camaraderie inspired me to become actively involved in KNI’s activities, where I have since found many mentors and friends.

KNI was established to foster socialization and networking among physicians who graduated from medical schools in Korea and are now practicing in New York and New Jersey. We later expanded our membership to include doctors who graduated from American medical schools but are comfortable with the Korean language. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, KNI doctors have been providing volunteer services and support to communities in New York and New Jersey, enhancing KNI’s presence and influence.

We regularly hold meetings and lectures led by our members and collaborate with other non-profit organizations to provide health counseling to the Greater New York community. Our membership has grown to 300, and in 2023, we fulfilled our long-standing goal of establishing KNI as a non-profit corporation.

KNI stands out as the most unique and distinctive Korean doctor group in the United States. Our members can communicate with the entire group through a single chat message at any time, and no other group can maintain such a close relationship with Korea based on the background of each individual member. We aim to leverage these characteristics to strengthen our network, have a greater impact on the surrounding community, provide practical assistance to doctors wishing to come to the United States from Korea, and foster interaction with doctors and medical communities in Korea. To achieve these goals, we rely on the support of our members, sponsors, and other organizations. Thank you for visiting the KNI website.
